Architectural photography in Tokyo: looking for a new angle on an old friend
The Mode Gakuen building in Tokyo is iconic and has been a feature of the Shinjuku skyline ever since I have lived here. Finished and opened in 2008, the building hosts a creative university and has always reminded me more than a little of London's 'Gerkin'.
As a building that has had my attention for eight years now, finding a new angle is always a fascinating challenge.
Re-visiting locations, whatever they may be, is one of the regular exercises I have as part of what I call my 'photographic gymnasium'. These are things I do regularly to keep my eye sharp, my mind keen and my approach from getting stale.
This new angle was one I found a couple of months ago, when I was out doing an architectural photography tour for a lady in town from the UK.
