Density: Osaka

Got this out of the window on the 27th floor of the Imperial Hotel in Osaka last year, whilst I was on my lunch break at a shoot I was doing for a regular client.

Been up to various high floors of The Imperial before but this day the weather and light were perfect.

Focal length of 80mm lens helps compress the perspective nicely, to enhance that feeling of density. But it's dense already; doesn't need much help from me :-)

You can see the Osaka Loop Line, the orange train, going through the middle of the left-hand side of the shot. I was waiting for that. I'd seen it once and waited for it to come back and in the part of the city where you could see more of the train than anywhere else in the frame.

  1. I love long focal length / compressed shots like that! Good stuff +Alfie Goodrich ! 🙂

  2. I did some with the 300mm as well.. but I didnt have time to take enough as I wanted to shoot the same scene in 300mm and then stitch them all together to make a massive version of this, +Christopher Puchta

  3. The train is small but has a strong exsistence!!!

  4. Wow, awesome moment with the darkened horizon and the beautifully lit buildings.  And such a clear day!  The ultimate where's Waldo.
