Kawasaki Daishi Temple; Kawsaki, Kanagawa, Japan

The entrance to the temple complex at Kawasaki Daishi. Joe and I spent an hour or two there last Sunday. Interesting spot, interesting neighbourhood in which I am planning to do a photowalk/lesson this Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Drop me a line if you are interested in coming along.

More about the history of the temple here:

  1. What a beautiful picture, I really like the composition and the sense of depth. I just was wondering how did you manage to keep in focus the lantern and the two women while slightly blurring the background?

  2. I would like to know too. I guess though that the distance between the two women and the lantern was very short, and the background was at a significant distance to be thrown out. Was it shot at around f/8?

  3. Enrico: the women were almost directly under the lantern. I waited for them to get to that point so that the lantern and they would be in focus.

Stephen: this was shot at f/2 which onthe 85mm f/1.4 is a real sweet-spot. combining the best of sharpness and bokeh.

  4. Thanks for that Alfie. I am coming back to Japan at the end of December this year. Is there any chance you run photowalks / lessons during the January period on weekends?

  5. Stephen: yep, running them all year-round. Drop me a line when you are here. Cheers.
