Recently life has been pretty damn busy but my wife and our children all got up early yesterday, jumped in a rental car and headed down to the Five Lakes area around Mount Fuji.
The weather was characterful; moody skies in the early and late parts of the day. Cooler, too but that's usually the case down there. When we left the area in the early evening it was 23 degrees. Tokyo on our return was almost 30 degrees.
I especially wanted to visit Lake Motosu as it is the only one of the five lakes I had never been to. Plus, it's the one pictured on the back of the Japanese 1000Yen note. It was previously on the old 5000Yen note, too.
We got there at just the right moment, when the cap-cloud that had been on Fuji's summit most of the morning looked most like a cone of snow. This year is the first time my wife has seen the mountain totally free of snow.
We spent the day touring around all five of the lakes, got a boat out on one and took a hot spring back near the shores of another . It was a lovely, relaxing day out.
