Had a great day out on Saturday with the walk we did on 'black and white street photography'. This was from near the end of our Asakusa-to-Okachimachi walk, in the crowded streets of Ameyoko.
First outing this year for the 'Alfiescope', a phrase coined by Mike for a combo of gear I have used one or two times to get shots like this:
DSLR held above my head
Cable-release held on my pocket
50mm or wider lens set to zone focus
Normally I'd have the camera on a monopod as it makes it easier to hold above my head. But I didnt have that with me on Saturday.
This was with the 50mm f/1.2 set to about 2m distance at f/2. Not your traditional zone-focusing aperture, which would normally be f/11 or smaller to get detail across a wide band of the street. But, I love f/2 on this lens and I like the way that different faces are in and out of focus. There are plenty of hits and misses with this technique but this one was definitely a hit.
