Shot back in December on our way over the mountains on Route 471, from Matsumoto towards Toyama.
This was a little off Route 471 but not far. I'd seen an interesting plateau on the map and as everyone else in the car was asleep, I figured they wouldn't mind the detour.
The daylight was fading. It was getting progressively colder. I was pleased that we were close enough to main roads that had been cleared of the worst of the snow. I don't mind driving in the snow but in the snow and at night is something just for when I am in the vehicle... not when the whole family's with me.
About the photo?
Shot as vertical frames [about four] and stitched together in Photoshop.
Shot and assembled to the Panavision [2.39:1] ratio. I like this ratio and am playing with some shots using it, with a view to exhibiting some work later in the year in this way.
Nikon D800E
Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 AF-S @ 24mm
Monochrome done in-camera
Few tweaks of exposure/curves in Photoshop.
The day draws to a close: Gifu, Takayama, Japan

Thinking of calling this 'Scene from a Movie I Haven't Made Yet'. The whole atmosphere there at the time was very filmic. The whole intention with this shot was to make some cinematic….
Wow! +Alfie Goodrich
