This fella was on the beach painting the Nojimazaki Lighthouse. Nice fella but very shy. I asked him if I could take his picture and he said 'In an hour or two when I am done painting'. Whilst I was asking him, I cracked off three frames of him pondering, then drinking his coffee. I shot one of his paints too.
These weren't shot on film but the four frames followed each other on the CF card of my D300 just as you see them here. Displaying them like this, just like a contact-strip of negatives - with one singled out in red china-clay pencil like I used to mark up my contacts for cropping - seemed to fit with the way they were shot, one after the other. And I wanted all of them to be displayed together.
