Takoyaki are round balls of a special kind of batter, filled with octopus [tako - たこ] and cooked in a kind of hotplate/mould with lots of spherical depressions in it. You twist the mixture round as one side cooks, to make balls which are hard on the outside with the soft mixture and octopus inside. Very yummy. Served with mayonnaise or tonkatsu sauce and sprinkled with flakes of smoked, dried tuna [katsuobushi - かつおぶし]. This fella had his van set up at the foot of the hill leading from Iidabashi station up to the shrine in Kagurazaka.
