Friends in the weather business have recently been telling me that due to La Niña starting up again a little while ago, we could be in for a hard winter.
I've experienced some great times here in Japan during winter. The north of the country, the north west of the country; these areas both have dramatic snowfalls. Niigata, Aomori, Hokkaido especially.
Tokyo will usually get a day or two of heavy snow in late January or February. We live near Tokyo Bay so the snow never tends to get too heavy here.
But, once a year it's enough to have some fun and see the city transformed.
This shot is from January of 2013, taken from the roof of our apartment block in Omori, just south of Shinagawa.
You see the main road from Tokyo to Yokohama - the Dai Ichi Keihin (Route15) - and the Keiyku Line railway.
The snow hadn't been falling long and was looking pretty.
Hopefully we'll get to see some nice scenes this winter. You can be sure I'll be out with my camera, to shoot them for you guys.
